Want to find out what Senior Master Lee is watching on Netflix?
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Stay tuned.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Let's get started.
Senior Master Lee:Sir.
Senior Master Lee:I will live with perseverance in the spirit of Taekwondo, courtesy for fellow students, integrity within myself, and to become a black belt leader.
Senior Master Lee:Welcome to the Ata Nation podcast.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Ladies and gentlemen, students, instructors, parents of Ata Nation, welcome back.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:This is episode 129 of the Ata Nation podcast.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:I'm your host, Senior Master Zach Hayden, and I was thrilled to get to see many of you at the ATA Fall Nationals in Pittsburgh.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:What a great time.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:I'm just telling you, these Fall Nationals in Pittsburgh, I love driving into Pittsburgh.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:You get to see all the fall leaves, the hills, you know, the beautiful city.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:It's just a great time.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:And I don't know how your guys Fall Nationals was.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:I would love to hear, you know, shoot me a message.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:DM me, let me know.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:I got to see a bunch of you guys there.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:My Fall Nationals was a little wild.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:I'm not going to lie.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:It was a little bit different.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:I've got.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:I had some different responsibilities, and then traditionally I bring my kids and my wife come to Fall Nationals with us, and my parents come as well to be like the babysitters.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:And this time my parents couldn't make it, and so my wife had the kids full time, and I actually snuck out and spent a little extra time with my family, which was fantastic.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:I had to go to a park that was really great.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:And I was really appreciative of being able to help my wife with the kids, but that gave me, like a weird feeling because I wasn't around the ATA people quite as much as I was, you know, traditionally when I met one of these events.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:And then the last day when we're usually at the tournament, watching people, you know, doing things there, um, my wife got sick.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:My kids had been sick earlier, and they'd gotten over it, and then my wife was sick, and so it just was kind of a wild trip for us to work to Nationals.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:So let me know how your guys trip went, though.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:I always just love these events.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:I was lucky enough I got to meet some new or some of the brand ambassadors that I had met before.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:That was a lot of fun.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:I was part of the Thrive event, which I thought was really great.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:I know I took a lot of learning from that to take back to my business and my school and continue to work on.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Got to see some licensees that I talked to at the reception, so it was a good time.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:We're going to talk more about the next national event coming up.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:But before that, I want to get to kind of part two of our interview with Senior Master Lee.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Last week we had part one.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:This week we've got a little bit more and we're going to talk about beyond the Belt and some advice for parents that we're going to start off with.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:But then I wanted to ask Senior Master Lee just some random questions, just some things, you know, that you might be wondering.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:A lot of times we talk to these seniors, you know, these high ranks masters, and they seem, I don't know, beyond human, sometimes superhuman.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:And so I think it's fun sometimes to ask them about some, you know, regular human things like what are you watching on Netflix these days?
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Or, you know, that kind of stuff.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:So let's get to part two of our interview with Senior Master Lee.
Senior Master Lee:Special guest interview.
Guest Speaker:Really beyond the Belt is about the students out there.
Guest Speaker:And I challenge all the parents too.
Guest Speaker:Anytime that they're being challenged by their child to want to quit, a lot of times it's just that they'll go through this hump, this little arc in their journey, and it may be two months in, it may be six months in and they want to quit.
Guest Speaker:And nine times out of 10, if you can just get them over that hump, once they get over that, maybe one month, it may be one testing cycle, but if they just stay consistent with it and you don't, you don't.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Give in, don't acquiesce, don't acquiesce to.
Guest Speaker:Your child who is maybe 7 years old and really good at negotiating.
Guest Speaker:Don't give into that one.
Guest Speaker:Let make sure they follow through with that.
Guest Speaker:And nine times out of 10, they come onto the other side of it and they, they're happier, they're excited about it.
Guest Speaker:They, they just, it's because we live in this world of, of ADHD mindset with our social media.
Guest Speaker:Everything is instant gratification.
Guest Speaker:And we know that if you want to be successful in life, you've got to stick with something, with anything.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Yes.
Guest Speaker:And if you give in, then it's just going to be harder for that next event.
Guest Speaker:It's going to be hard.
Guest Speaker:So we know, you and I both know the value of martial arts.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Yes.
Guest Speaker:What it does for what it did for us, what it can do for children.
Guest Speaker:You're not sitting there on social media, digital screens, none of that.
Guest Speaker:This is physiological, tactical, mental, spiritual, emotional.
Guest Speaker:Everything is there.
Guest Speaker:It's driving your every single cell in your mind to get through those pushups, kicks, form, whatever it is yesterday.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Yeah, yeah.
Guest Speaker:And it's, it is so good for each and every one of us, no matter what our race, religion, whatever it is, it's so good for everyone.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:And you'll never have a.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:I've never had a student, a parent or excuse me, a student come to me as they got their black belt and was like, you know what, I really wish my mom would have let me quit.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:You know, never do that.
Guest Speaker:When you get to how many people show up to your school and say, do you remember me?
Guest Speaker:I quit at yellow belt.
Guest Speaker:I wish I had, I wish I had all the time.
Guest Speaker:Or just random people.
Guest Speaker:Oh, you do karate?
Guest Speaker:Yeah, I got my, I got my orange green belt.
Guest Speaker:I just wish I never quit.
Guest Speaker:Yeah, that happens all the time.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:All the time.
Guest Speaker:Happens all the time.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Just stick with it.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Parents, like, it's hard to tell your kids to like, no, too bad you're getting in the car, we're going to.
Guest Speaker:I just told my, my 11 year old, I'm going through it with my 11 year old.
Guest Speaker:I was that kid too.
Guest Speaker:My mom said, nope, this is one thing you, you have to do.
Guest Speaker:And at that moment I did not like her, but I am so thankful for that.
Guest Speaker:And to my daughter, I said, you can do anything you want.
Guest Speaker:Martial arts is a non negotiable.
Guest Speaker:You are taking martial arts.
Guest Speaker:And there was this time period where she didn't want to do it and now she's enjoying it again.
Guest Speaker:It's that she's a second degree recommended black belt.
Guest Speaker:So she's gone through that a couple times, but now she's on, she's back on track again and things are moving up and up.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Yeah, it's it with anything in life.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:You get times when you're like, oh, this isn't as exciting anymore, but you've got to stick with it.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:It's one of those lessons beyond the belt, you know, that you can take outside of Taekwondo and continue to use in every area of your life.
Guest Speaker:That's right.
Guest Speaker:And I guarantee you that every level in Taekwondo and ata martial arts, you're going to learn something new.
Guest Speaker:I mean it gets harder and harder.
Guest Speaker:Wait till you have to do the third degree form.
Guest Speaker:It's going to challenge you.
Guest Speaker:It's fun and it's great once you get there.
Guest Speaker:It's a lot of hard work.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Yes, sir.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Well, I, that's great advice, Great advice for parents, I mean for all of us to stick with it.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:When you wake up and you don't want to do that workout that day, you know, whatever.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:It's, we got to all stick with it.
Guest Speaker:So I'll see you in the mornings, right?
Senior Master Zach Hayden:I'm on a flight.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Otherwise I would be here tomorrow morning.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Otherwise, that's a cop out.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Yeah, well, change your flight.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:We'll see.
Guest Speaker:Change your flight first.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Change your flight first.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:A little rapid fire, random questions.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Are you ready?
Guest Speaker:Yes.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Coffee, black.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Cream, sugar?
Senior Master Zach Hayden:What do you have in your coffee?
Guest Speaker:Black.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:No, coffee black.
Guest Speaker:Black.
Guest Speaker:I didn't like coffee until I worked for Starbucks.
Guest Speaker:And they give you free coffee, which is how I learned that.
Guest Speaker:They get you into their customer base, but they give you free coffee and then no.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:And then you're hooked.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:You're hooked forever.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Okay, outside of black coffee, you go to Starbucks.
Guest Speaker:What's your drink of choice at Starbucks?
Guest Speaker:Yeah, I'll drink tea.
Guest Speaker:Green tea.
Guest Speaker:Yes.
Guest Speaker:I'm trying to show them that I'm not addicted.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:You're not addicted to coffee.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Caffeine has a great benefit in working out in certain.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:You know, I mean, there's some good.
Guest Speaker:There's some good things with coffee.
Guest Speaker:It's not good for you, though.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Go to app on your phone.
Guest Speaker:Go to app on my.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Like, what do you.
Guest Speaker:I use Yelp.
Guest Speaker:I'm a foodie.
Guest Speaker:I like to eat.
Guest Speaker:I like to find good restaurants.
Guest Speaker:Spotify.
Guest Speaker:I love music.
Guest Speaker:My children and I, they had.
Guest Speaker:They know who Michael Jackson was even before I started listening to it with them.
Guest Speaker:And they're.
Guest Speaker:They love his music.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Oh, that's.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:I was talking to your assistant.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Have you seen the Cirque du Soleil Michael Jackson show yet?
Guest Speaker:3.
Guest Speaker:Only 3 times.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Only 3 times.
Guest Speaker:Only 3 Times.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:So it's decent.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:You would recommend the.
Guest Speaker:The road show was much better.
Guest Speaker:The road show was incredible.
Guest Speaker:I felt like that was the.
Guest Speaker:That was the closest because they had live band and they.
Guest Speaker:It was the closest to actually being at a concert without a singer.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Right.
Guest Speaker:It was amazing.
Guest Speaker:That was amazing.
Guest Speaker:I saw that one twice.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Have to check that out then.
Guest Speaker:Well, it's.
Guest Speaker:It's gone well.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Okay, now I'll have to go to the.
Guest Speaker:It's gone too soon.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Regular one is in Vegas.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:I don't know.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Let me check that.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:That.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Okay, so Spotify.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:What about.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Do you.
Guest Speaker:What else do I do?
Guest Speaker:I know that's boring.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:No, those.
Guest Speaker:I mean Capcut.
Guest Speaker:I don't use Capcut, but Capcut is a new editing software.
Guest Speaker:My daughter does it.
Guest Speaker:She goes, I'm an editor.
Guest Speaker:I bet you didn't know that.
Guest Speaker:And I said, well, you know, I used to.
Guest Speaker:I'm actually an editor.
Guest Speaker:I'm a real editor.
Guest Speaker:I use Final Cut Pro and I'm Premiere.
Guest Speaker:And.
Guest Speaker:And that's like, what he's like.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Nobody uses that anymore.
Guest Speaker:App cuts where it's at.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Yeah.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:What about Binge?
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Like Netflix tv?
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Do you do any.
Guest Speaker:Yes.
Guest Speaker:So, yeah, the morning show on Apple Plus.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Okay.
Guest Speaker:Seen it, but it's not child friendly.
Guest Speaker:Well, it's.
Guest Speaker:It's.
Guest Speaker:It's good.
Guest Speaker:There's.
Guest Speaker:Yeah, I'm.
Guest Speaker:I like action movies.
Guest Speaker:I like.
Guest Speaker:I like action.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Yeah.
Guest Speaker:Something fun that way.
Guest Speaker:The Karate Kid was always a good one.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Have you watched Enter the Dojo or the.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:The New.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:The remakes on Netflix, the show.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Have you watched Cobra Kai?
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Yeah, sorry, I don't know.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Enter the Dojo is the.
Guest Speaker:I watched it, you know, and what I love about is when I see Mr.
Guest Speaker:Miyagi.
Guest Speaker:Yes.
Guest Speaker:Mr.
Guest Speaker:Miyagi to me is.
Guest Speaker:You know, it's crazy because Pat Morita sounds nothing like Mr.
Guest Speaker:Miyagi, and I just think he's an amazing actor.
Guest Speaker:It's sad that he's no longer with us, but Mr.
Guest Speaker:Miyagi totally made the Karate Kid.
Guest Speaker:So when they do a little ode back to Mr.
Guest Speaker:Miyagi on Cobra Kai, that's always, always good.
Guest Speaker:It kind of hits you in the heart.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Hits you in the heart.
Guest Speaker:Yeah.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:That's good.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Okay.
Guest Speaker:But for all the kids that are watching, make sure you are not watching the morning show.
Guest Speaker:No.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:What about go to show with the kids?
Senior Master Zach Hayden:What do you watch with the kids?
Guest Speaker:Oh, gosh.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Have you hit Bluey?
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Are you guys Bluey people?
Guest Speaker:No, Bluey.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:I mean, your kids are a little older than mine.
Guest Speaker:I have two.
Guest Speaker:Two girls.
Guest Speaker:And my youngest is.
Guest Speaker:She's into.
Guest Speaker:Oh, I think we're.
Guest Speaker:It's still going.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:I don't still go.
Guest Speaker:Yeah, my youngest is into.
Guest Speaker:Which first she was into cocomelon, and then she watches, like, now she's in a Barbie.
Guest Speaker:She's the Barbie.
Guest Speaker:My oldest.
Guest Speaker:My oldest was never into Barbie.
Guest Speaker:She's into Japanime.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Okay.
Guest Speaker:And she's the artistic side of things.
Guest Speaker:She thinks that Taylor Swift is not cool.
Guest Speaker:My youngest thinks Taylor Swift is the coolest.
Guest Speaker:So I got Ian and Yang.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Yeah.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Very good.
Guest Speaker:But both are girls.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Yeah.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Good luck.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:I mean, they're ahead of mine, so I'm.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:I understand.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:But I got a boy and a girl, so it makes it a little.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:At least I get a little back and forth.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:But I think we're going to have a fair number of fights at home and stuff, so.
Guest Speaker:Yes, that will happen.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Well, sir, we appreciate your time today.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Always a pleasure to talk to you.
Guest Speaker:Thank you.
Senior Master Lee:Here's what's going on in Ata Nation.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Well, ATA Nation, you know, the big next thing coming on our national events is Spring Nationals, and the registration just launched for Spring Nationals right at Fall Nationals.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:So super cool.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:It is going to be in Fort Worth, Texas, a little different than last time, just because they're doing construction on where we were in Dallas.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:So this is April 16th through the 19th, and I know this is Easter week, and ATA has put out some information to let everybody know that they are are working on getting off of the Easter week, but they have to fulfill their agreements and their the things that they've pledged to do already.
Senior Master Zach Hayden: I believe they're looking at: Senior Master Zach Hayden: r excuse me, that wouldn't be: Senior Master Zach Hayden:So just so you know, they are working on it.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:They understand.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:They have heard from you guys to say that you don't always love that.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:So they're.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:They're working that.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:But April 16th through the 19th, this is going to be in Fort Worth, Texas.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:The event schedule is already out.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:You can get your spectator admission.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:You can book your hotels and make sure that you sign up for seminars already.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:And of course they are.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:You are already able to register online as well, so make sure that you are checking that out.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:I know I've been looking at the schedule.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:I haven't gone to fall or, excuse me, Spring Nationals when it's been in Texas yet.
Senior Master Zach Hayden: And I think this: Senior Master Zach Hayden:Now, one more thing I'd love to discuss with you real quick is I'm looking for some feedback on the podcast, just some things we want to continue to work on, continuing to prove.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:So we're doing a listener survey.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:You're going to have to go into the Show Notes.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:If you find this on Facebook for Instagram, we'll try to include those in our links.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Otherwise, if you listen to this in one of your podcast feeds, you can click over into the podcast feed and see the links, the show notes, all those kind of things from our survey so far.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:I have noticed that there are a lot of people who are not subscribed.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:You're just finding it when it's on Facebook or, you know, one of the social platforms.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:I would really encourage you to head over to your favorite podcasting app, and you might not have a favorite podcasting app.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:That's okay, I'll forgive you.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:But you head over to your podcasting app Search for ATA Nation Podcast and hit the subscribe button that's going to get this delivered to your phone.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Every time an episode comes live.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:It'll notify you and you can listen on the road during your workout, whatever is most convenient for you.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:We are continuing to push the video interviews, not the full episode, but the video interviews are going online on ATAs YouTube YouTube page.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:So make sure you head over to Ata on YouTube and subscribe so you get notified every time one of those comes out as well.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Next week we've got a great interview with a Sunsee Lee Award winner.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:I'm excited for that one.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Until next time, make sure you're out there going beyond the belt thanks for.
Senior Master Lee:Listening to another episode of the ATA Nation Podcast.
Senior Master Lee:Be sure to subscribe and share with your ATA Family.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Secret part.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Hey guys, do that survey.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:I'd really appreciate it.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:One of the things I've noticed is a lot of people listen for training tips and we haven't had as many of those on recently and I got some ideas that I want to try to help you guys with that.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:But it's your friends to listen and fill out the survey as well and we can see what we can do.
Senior Master Zach Hayden:Hey guys, take care.
